Gardaí in the midlands have dealt with over 1,200 reports of domestic abuse so far this year.
790 visits were made by officers in Laois and Offaly, with a further 493 incidents attended in Westmeath up to September 9th.
They represent 5% of the national total of 24,686 issued by the Minister of State for Justice Hildegarde Naughton in response to a parliamentary question.
