The aim of the scheme is to support families and first-time buyers to achieve homeownership.
Longford County Council his announcing a new Affordable Homes Purchase Scheme that will provide 25 new homes at Cúirt an Easpaig on the Ballinalee Road in Longford.
The development will include: 5 two-bedroom terraced houses, 8 three-bedroom terraced houses and 12 three-bedroom semi-detached houses
All homes will be A-rated for energy efficiency, helping homeowners reduce energy bills and improve comfort.
The scheme is designed to help first-time buyers and families who may not be able to afford to buy a home at full market price. Homes will be sold at a reduced price, with the council keeping a shared equity stake in each property.
Applications for the scheme will open online at 10am on Monday, 30 March 2026.
Cathaoirleach Cllr Garry Murtagh says the development will give working families in Longford a real opportunity to own their own home. Chief Executive Paddy Mahon says the scheme has been carefully planned to make homeownership more accessible while supporting long-term affordable housing in the county.
The scheme is mainly for first-time buyers who do not currently own a home, although some exceptions may apply. Applications are due to be assessed under the Council’s Scheme of Priority.
A number of information sessions are due to take place to provide information on the scheme.
Full details on eligibility and how to apply as well as the dates for the information sessions are available on the Council’s website at www.longfordcoco.ie/affordable-housing.
