They'll generate 11% of the hub's electricity demands.
Over 500 solar panels have been installed at a parcel depot in the midlands.
DPD have fitted the panels at its hub in Athlone.
The move is expected to generate 1.3 megawatts of electricity per year, 11% of the station's demands.
It's estimated to reduce CO2 emissions by over 49 thousand kg annually, the equivilent of 18,000 litres of diesel.
DPD Ireland CIO Colin Kennedy said the company was delighted to reinforce its commitment to becoming Ireland's leading parcel company in sustainable delivery with the installation of solar panels - he says:
"This rooftop solar array is a testament to our dedication to sustainability and our proactive approach towards reducing our carbon footprint. We are proud to partner with Enerpower, whose expertise and commitment to renewable energy have been instrumental in making this project a success.
The solar initiative is just one of the many steps that DPD Ireland has taken towards a more sustainable future. We are making great strides towards a greener future as we press on with our commitment to decarbonise our network. By the end of this year, we will have deployed 200 electric vans to our depots, marking a significant milestone in our journey towards sustainability."
