Midlands Forestry Firm’s Appeal Against 58-Home Westmeath Development Dismissed

Lacken Ventures Ltd were granted permission to construct houses in Mullingar last month.

A Midlands forestry firm's attempt to block a multi-million-euro housing development in Westmeath is being dismissed.

Planning permission was granted to Meath firm Lacken Ventures Ltd in late August for 58 homes in Charlestown, Mullingar last month, with a community amenity space and more than 100 car parking spaces.

The plans include parking for 52 homes, 32 grouped spaces and six visitor spaces serving 22 homes, alongside more than 3,800 sq m of public open space, including a children’s play area.

Westmeath County Council granted planning permission subject to 23 conditions.

However, a third-party appeal by Mullingar based Forest Park Partnership looked to halt operations, but An Coimisiún Pleanála officials deemed the objection invalid in mid September due to be it being lodged after a deadline.
