The HSE is highlighting the 'See ,Listen ,Support' campaign.
Midlands health services are raising awareness for World Maternal Mental Health Day today.
This year’s campaign, See, Listen, Support, is highlighting the importance of recognising when mothers may be struggling, during pregnancy and in the first year after birth.
The HSE is urging people to take time to listen, and ensure new mothers feel supported in their communities and when accessing services.
Maternal mental health difficulties affect up to 1 in 4 women, and many may not always ask for help.
Dr. Catherine Hinds, Consultant Perinatal Psychiatrist, at the National Maternity Hospital says stigma is a big issue for mothers in Ireland:
