Midlands Homelessness Falls For First Time Since February

The number of homeless people in the midlands has fallen for the first time since February.

190 people accessed emergency accommodation in the region in July.

The number of homeless adults in the midlands in last month fell to 135 last month, a reduction of 10 when compared to June.

Westmeath remains responsible for the largest number of people without permanent accommodation, at 57.

That's followed closely by the figure in Offaly, which is 53, while Laois continues to have a significantly smaller number, at 25 - that's also the second smallest figure in the country.

There are also 55 homeless children in the region, a reduction of six on the month prior.

Nationally however, it's been another month of record levels of homelessness, with 12,847 people accessing emergency accommodation - that's an increase of 247 on June's figure.

Nearly 4,000 of those are children.
