Midlands MEP Cites Offaly Power Plant As Warning Over Just Transition Funding

A Midlands MEP is using the example of a decommissioned peat burning power plant in Offaly as a cautionary tale over Just Transition funding.

Operations at Shannonbridge Power Plant were shut down in 2020 as part of the government's decarbonisation programme.

A gas-fired, diesel fuelled "peaker plant" has been constructed on the same site, and will work as an emergency power plant when demand on the grid is at its greatest.

Independent Ireland rep Ciaran Mullooly says its a clear example of the poor decisions state's will make without EU oversight:
