Midlands MEP Urges Tougher Stance On EU Nitrates Deal

Barry Cowen wants action from the government.

A Midlands MEP is voicing serious concerns over the nitrates derogation deal being hammered out in Brussels.

Ireland's current derogation, which allows for a higher limit of nitrogen being produced in the farming of livestock, is set to run out at the end of the year.

Barry Cowen says the time has come for the government to harden their stance on the measure before a deal is made.

He wants his Fianna Fail colleagues to pressure the party leadership:
