Rent is on the way down in the midlands.
The Rental Tenancies Board latest report shows the average cost of rent per month for new tenancies in the midlands in the first quarter of this year was €1,032.
It's a very small decrease, but rent in the region has dropped by €2 when compared to the fourth quarter of 2022.
However, it's still a substantial increase on where it was in the first quarter of last year, when the average cost per month was €956.
Offaly continues to offer the best value for new tenants in the midlands, at €962.
Your next best bet is to head to Westmeath, where you'll meet a rental price of €1,053, while that figure is €1,082 in Laois.
Nationally, rent has seen a jump of 2.5% when compared to the quarter previous, while there's been a near 9% rise year-on-year.
