A large number of schools in Laois are closed today due to heavy snowfall over the weekend leading to difficult travelling conditions.
All primary and secondary schools in Portlaoise will remain closed for the day, with further closures in schools across Mountrath, Mountmellick, Portarlington, Castletown, Ballinakill, Abbeyleix, and Stradbally all shutting their gates for today at least.
Meanwhile in Offaly, both St Patrick’s National School, in Clonbullogue and St. Francis Boys National School in Clara are closed today and say they'll be assessing conditions this evening before making a decision on opening tomorrow.
