They are both on the Oireachtas Defence Committee.
Two midlands TDs are leading the campaign to establish a dedicated Minister for Defence.
The call comes from former Justice Minister and Laois Offaly Fine Gael Deputy Charlie Flanagan, and is backed by Kildare South TD and former Army Ranger, Cathal Berry, who are both members of the Oireachtas Defence Committee.
The position is currently held by Tanáiste Micheál Martin, who is also the Minister for Foreign Affairs.
