The route was closed for a time as a result.
Trains are delayed this afternoon following a bridge strike in Laois.
Gardaí attended the scene of the single-vehicle collision on Ridge Road, Portlaoise earlier.
Services on the train route between Portlaoise and Portarlington were suspended while an engineer went to the site of the incident.
Both the 12.25 and 13.25 trains from Cork to Heuston are running behind as a result.
Update: Services have resumed between Portlaoise and Portarlington.
