Millions of euro in active travel funding is going to the Midlands this year.
Westmeath County Council is receiving €4.1 million for Active Travel and Greenway projects.
While Laois County Council is being allocated €3 million and Offaly County Council is getting €3.8 million.
Nationally, €360 million in capital funding is being announced for Active Travel and Greenway projects in 2026.
The funding will also support safer, more sustainable transport options in towns and rural areas across the Midlands.
Nationally, the programme will deliver around 200km of new walking and cycling infrastructure in line with Climate Action Plan targets.
Active travel projects receiving funding in Laois include the Bus Stop Enhancement Programme, Greenways and the National Road Travel project from Abbeyleix to Portlaoise.
Among the projects to benefit are the development in Offaly include Birr Riverside Walk, the Tullamore Cycle Network and crossings and footpaths.
In Westmeath the investment will support the development of walking and cycling projects that provide safe, sustainable, and healthy transport options for communities across the country.
