A Midlands MEP is challenging the European Commission over proposed reforms to the Common Agricultural Policy after a critical audit from the European Court of Auditors.
Ciaran Mullooly believes the report confirmed farmers’ fears that new CAP plans could increase bureaucracy rather than simplify rules.
Auditors warned the proposed governance system and new coordinating bodies could create delays, confusion and greater administrative complexity.
The MEP is criticising the Commission for ignoring concerns raised by MEPs and national parliaments on agricultural policy and trade issues.
