Over 70 people have been waiting longer than a year for a hospital appointment in the midlands.
The latest figures from the National Treatment Purchase Fund shows the adult waiting list in the region's hospitals was at nearly 2,000 in September.
Mullingar Regional Hospital accounts for the majority of those, at 1,006, while there's 758 people waiting for services in Tullamore, and 218 in Portlaoise.
Nearly half a million prospective patients have been on the Active Waiting List longer than the Sláintecare maximum times.
Irish Hospital Consultants Association President Professor, Rob Landers, says "the health service management has not predicted accurately the backlog of care that has built up over the past four years."
