A new report has also found there were over 180,000 uninsured drivers on the road last year.
There have been almost 400 claims relating to accidents caused by uninsured and untraced drivers in the midlands over the past 5 years.
New figures from the Motor Insurance Bureau of Ireland, shows Westmeath had the highest number of claims in the midlands, with 154.
That's followed by 134 in Laois, and 104 in Offaly.
The national figure reached over 10,000.
David Fitzgerald, CEO of MIBI, says no one should risk driving uninsured:
The report also found motorists have paid between €150 and €175 extra on their premiums over the past five years to cover uninsured drivers claims.
There were 188,000 uninsured private vehicles on Irish roads last year.
The MIBI is predicting that number could pass 200,000 in the next 12 to 18 months.
