It's one of a number of plans to attract people into Portlaoise by the local council.

It's hoped the new library in Portlaoise will bring much needed footfall.

Laois-Offaly Fianna Fáil TD Seán Fleming says he understands the pressure and ongoing challenges local businesses face due to covid-19.

But the Minister of State for Finance says the local authority is investing in the area and trying to attract shoppers into the town.
