New Veterans Office Promises Support For 150k Ex-Service Members

Simon Harris has promised to deliver the Office by the end of 2025.

The introduction of an Office of Veterans Affairs is an overdue step on a long road to improving supports for former Defence Force members.

That's the assessment of a former army ranger from Portarlington after Minister for Defence Simon Harris' promise to deliver the Office by the end of the year.

The State is currently home to 150,000 military veterans.

The Office would deliver support for any former defence force member struggling with housing and mental health along with a broad range of other services.

Ex-member of the Oireachtas Foreign Affairs & Defence Committee Cathal Berry is welcoming the news, but says there's a long way to go:
