Offaly County Council Exploring Housing Scheme First Mooted 20 Years Ago

An independent general election candidate is calling for an emphasis on affordable housing in rural areas.

Offaly County Council is looking at a proposal initially mooted 20 years ago to encourage more people to settle in rural areas. 

Small scale housing schemes known as 'Sraids' are one of a number of housing options being explored by the local authority. 

Independent Laois/Offaly general election candidate Councillor John Leahy is calling for an emphasis to be put on affordable housing to allow people to live in the areas they grew up in.

He says it's important that the initiative is explained properly to those who may benefit:
