Local reps are said to be frustrated with how the situation is developing.
A delegation from Offaly County Council is seeking a meeting with MEPs regarding just transition.
The proposed group will consist of local authority officials, the three municipal district chairs and Fianna Fáil councillor Eamon Dooley.
They'll look for clarity from EU Commissioner Mairead McGuinness on a territorial transition plan being drafted in Europe and how it could impact the midlands region.
