He'll seek the party's nomination to contest the upcoming General Election.
An Offaly councillor is seeking Fine Gael's nomination to contest the upcoming General Election.
John Clendennen has thrown his hat in the ring for the race, after ten years as a public representative in the Birr Municipal District.
He'll seek the party's nomination to contest for one of three seats in the Offaly constituency, which will once again be split from Laois in the next Dáil term.
Councillor Clendennen says he's confident Fine Gael can take a seat in the county:
Councillor Clendennen will seek the party's nomination during the Offaly Selection Convention on August 29th.
In a statement to Midlands 103, he says the party must build on its current momentum:
"It’s important to acknowledge the help and support of so many people across the constituency, that gave up their time to help and campaigned, ensuring Fine Gael now holds five from nineteen seats at Offaly County Council.
The Birr District Municipal Councillor is one of the longest serving Fine Gael Councillors at Offaly County Council and has previously contested Selection Conventions for the party.
Over the past ten years as an elected public representative, I have proven my ability to work diligently to deliver for local communities, and I believe I have the skillset and experience to represent the people of Offaly at Dáil Éireann, and I am now asking the party membership to give me their support at the selection convention scheduled for August 29th."
