Over 100 submissions have been made to Laois County Council, opposing a new Bord na Móna waste facility.
The company is planning to build an anaerobic digestor - which converts waste into gas - in Portlaoise.
But an action group has been set-up, opposing the proximity of the facility to residential areas.
Fine Gael councillor Thomasina Connell is among those demanding the plans be dropped.
She says she's not opposed to the renewable energy plant itself, but that the proposed site at Clonboyne, on the outskirts of Portlaoise, is not suitable:
