However, the NTA are planning to increase rural routes in the region.
Plans to extend the public transport network in rural areas of the midlands could begin this Summer.
The National Transport Network expects to publish the results of a public consultation on their Connected Ireland Rural Mobility Plan by the end of this month.
It'll include recommendations and an implementation process for added routes in rural areas around major towns in the region.
The NTA expect proposals to take five years to implement fully but have previously ruled out adding an orbital route to its service of Athlone.
