"Out Of Scale" Spending On Athlone's Christmas Lights

A local councillor is questioning why so much needs to be spent.

The cost of erecting Christmas lights across Westmeath is being described as "out of scale" in comparison to the budget for other measures. 

Green Party councillor Louise Heavin sought answers from the local authority director of services Barry Kehoe on the issue. 

€30,000 is allocated to both districts in the county, with €25,000 being spent on lighting Athlone alone.
