Over 1,500 new homes were granted planning permission in the midlands last year.
New figures from the CSO also show the number of approvals more than doubled in the final quarter of 2022.
610 dwellings received planning permission from Westmeath County Council last year - 373 of those were houses, while 237 were apartments.
The local authority in Offaly gave the green light for 486 projects, while 464 homes in Laois were granted approval.
