80 children in the midlands have been waiting over a year to access vital mental healthcare.

There are 648 patients in the region on the waiting list for the Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service, which provides treatment for young people with moderate to severe difficulties.

Nationally, there are nearly 4,200 patients on the waiting list, 540 of which have been waiting over a year.

Dr Maeve Doyle, from the College of Psychiatrists of Ireland, says the service has a huge shortage of staff.
