Over €25k Spent By HSE On Funerals Without Family Support In The Midlands

Over €200k was spent overall.

The HSE has spent over €25,000 in the Midlands in the last two years to bury people who have no family to make arrangements.

In 2024, approximately €116,000 to cover burial expenses for individuals was allocated, with €220,000 spent overall, according to the Irish Times.

The South and South East region accounted for the largest share of the spending, totaling around €82,000.

The HSE said that while families usually cover burial costs, its services sometimes fund funerals for patients with no known relatives.
