Planning Permission Lodged For Mountmellick Flood Relief Scheme

Laois County Council are seeking approval from An Coimisiun Pleanala for the project.

Details of a flood relief scheme for Laois is being lodged to An Coimisiun Pleanala today.

Laois County Council is seeking approval for both the scheme in Mountmellick, and for the compulsory acquisition of the 18 acres of land needed to deliver the project.

The Office of Public Works is also approving an completed preliminary design, with a public consultation process set to start next Tuesday November 3rd and run until Monday, December 15th.

160 premises will be protected from flooding according to the plans, with over 3 kilometers of embankments,flood walls and a new pumping station on Davitt Road.

The local authority says that plans are adaptable and can accommodate modifications to provide for future flood risk scenarios.
