Westmeath County Council will work will the defence forces to facilitate it.
Plans are in place for a transport system for those affected by flooding in rural Westmeath.
Water levels in the River Shannon are expected to rise by a further 15 centimetres by Saturday.
Director of Services at Westmeath County Council, Barry Kehoe, says they're arranging a transport service, with the Defence Forces, to facilitate the movement of people whose homes have been blocked off by floods.
Mr. Kehoe says pumps and defences are keeping the situation under control in Athlone town, but rural areas are more concerning:
