A Priest in the Diocese of Kildare and Leighlin is to become the Bishop of Achonry.
Fr Paul Dempsey, who is currently the Parish Priest in Newbridge, was appointed by Pope Francis this morning
Since being ordained in 1997, he has been working with young people and those living in Direct Provision
Bishop of Kildare and Leighlin Denis Nulty says Father Paul will leave a deep void in the diocese since his contribution has been immense.
He also says he'll miss him but is also very proud of his achievement and appointment this day and that it is a great day for Kildare & Leighlin, to see one of its own recognised by Pope Francis.
