The new times could be in operation by mid-December.
Irish Rail has published a proposal for a new timetable.
It could be operational by mid-December, with a public consultation open until the end of this month.
If implemented, there could be additional services for a number of routes, including Portlaoise and Athlone.
New carriages are to be delivered next year, which could see a further expansion of the network.
