Calls to restart the power stations in Lanesboro and Shannonbridge have been made by Sinn Féin, the Regional Independent Group and at a meeting in Portarlington last night.
The peat-fired facilities were shut down by the ESB in December 2020, after failing to secure permission from An Bord Pleanála to burn biomass at the plants.
