The Health Research Board's latest data shows health area CH08, which includes counties Laois, Offaly, Westmeath, Longford, Louth and Meath, had an average of 35.7 involuntary admissions per 100,000 people last year.
While the figure for 'first admissions' is at 11.2 per 100 thousand.
Cork and Kerry has the highest figures for involuntary stays in psychiatric Units and hospitals at 72.1 per 100 thousand.
