The teenager is in a critical condition in hospital, after he was attacked in Longford.
He was found with serious head injuries on the main street of Ballymahon, after he was attacked around twenty past three on Saturday morning.
He was taken to the Midlands Regional Hospital in Mullingar by paramedics before being transferred to Beaumont in Dublin.
He was in a critical condition last night.
Yesterday evening Garda Headquarters said a 19-year-old man had been arrested in connection with the assault.
Investigations are continuing into what happened.
Gardaí are appealing for eyewitnesses to come forward and asked the public to send in any footage recorded in the area between 2am and 4am on Saturday morning.
