Old and broken water pipes are being replaced to strengthen the town's water network.
Work to upgrade old and broken water pipes is beginning in Athlone today.
Irish Water is replacing over 400 metres of old and broken piping in the Retreat Heights area of the town, to reduce the number of bursts and outages.
The works are expected to be completed by the end of September, while a three-way traffic light system will be in place in the area of the duration of the project.
