34 year old Darren Gorman previously pleaded guilty to attempting to engage in terrorist activity.
A sitting of the Special Criminal Court has heard a group of men planned to fire pipe bombs inside a mosque in order to make a "public statement."
The Irish Independent is reporting 34 year-old Darren Gorman of O’Moore Place, Portlaoise, Co Laois, previously pleaded guilty to a charge of attempting to engage in a terrorist activity or a terrorist-linked activity.
Mr Gorman was part of the trio of men branding themselves the "Irish Defence Army", with a letter written to take responsibliity for the planned attack in November last year, on the Maryam Mosque on the Monivea Road in Galway.
The other two men are 39 year old Karolis Peckauskas, of Newfoundwell Road, Drogheda, in Louth and Garrett Pollock from Kilhorne Greene, Annalong, Co Down.
A video was also filmed in which they warned they would carry out further attacks and that "an eye for an eye" was going to be their approach going forward
The other two men were stopped by Gardai in a Black BMW in Portlaoise on November 4th and were found carrying knives.
Evidence found the defendants had a Signal group chat called Shadows of Éire, in which they shared information on making improvised explosive devices and discussed their plans to attack a mosque.
Gorman has six previous convictions for road traffic offences, with his lawyer to make a plea in mitigation to the court next Friday.
