Submissions Open For Public To Argue A Reduction In Offaly's Local Property Tax

A councillor is justifying last years increase, bringing an €18 million boost to the county.

An Offaly councillor is justifying a 15% increase in property tax in 2019, by saying it allows them to draw down €18 million from the government over a five year period. 

John Leahy voted in favour of the move and calculates it costs on average 45 cent more per week for 4 in 5 homeowners. 

Submissions are now open for the public to argue for a reduction when it becomes eligible for change in September. 

The independent rep admits a lack of interaction in the consultation process is because many believe it's futile:
