Laois Offaly Deputy Barry Cowen will contest the elections in June.
The Tánaiste says Fianna Fail is running three candidates with strong personalities in the Midlands North-West constituency.
It comes as Barry Cowen says the party in its wisedom has decided to add Senators Niall Blaney and Lisa Chambers to the ballot paper.
