A 19-year-old has been arrested in connection with the incident.
A man has been arrested over a serious assault overnight which has left a teenager fighting for his life in hospital.
It happened in the early hours of this morning in Ballymahon, Co Longford.
The attack happened on the main street of the town at about twenty past three this morning.
The victim, a youth in his late teens, suffered serious head injuries and was rushed to Mullingar hospital by paramedics.
Gardaí say he's still in a critical condition this evening.
They've arrested a 19-year-old man this afternoon in connection with the attack.
He's being held for questioning at Longford Garda Station, as the investigation continues.
Gardaí are appealing for eyewitnesses and any footage recorded on the main street between 2am and 4am this morning.
