Residents in an Offaly village have been raising concerns over potholes in the area.

Offaly County Council says it's aware of 'challenging' road conditions, but says recent weather can only facilitate temporary repairs for now.

Locals in Rhode have been raising concerns with an increasing number of potholes in the winter, with several complaints already made to the local authority.

Offaly County Council says Edenderry Municipal District has identified a number of schemes around the village to address some of the issues facing residents, and it will continue to carry out temporary repairs until more comprehensive works can be implemented.

The local authority also says it will continue to engage with locals and elected members on the issue.

See full statement from Offaly County Council below:

"Offaly County Council are aware and fully acknowledge the challenging road conditions at present. However, given the recent weather, only temporary repairs are feasible in the immediate term by the Municipal District staff.

The Department of Transport funding allocations are due to be announced in the coming weeks and Edenderry Municipal District have identified number of schemes around Rhode to address some of the issues highlighted.

Once the funding allocations are released, Edenderry Municipal District will share the proposed roads programme for Rhode.

Funding received will dictate the number of roads that can be addressed, but Offaly County Council will endeavour to undertake as much works as possible within the limits of available funding.

Edenderry Municipal District staff will continue to carry out temporary patching repairs within the limits of weather and resources until more comprehensive works can be implemented. Additional repair plant has been deployed for such works.

Our staff have and will continue to engage with the local community and Elected Members on this issue."
