He remains in a serious, but non-life-threatening condition.
Gardaí carried out searches at three homes and arrested three people, who were being detained at a Garda Station in the North Western Region.
A man and a woman, both in their 20s, were later charged, and are due to appear before Athlone District Court today, while a second woman in her 20s will appear before a sitting of Longford District Court at a later date.
Investigations are ongoing.
