A Green Party public meeting recently heard various ideas from the local community.
There's been a positive reaction to the idea of appointing a town architect to Portlaoise.
The suggestion was made by Westmeath's Green Party councillor Louise Heavin during a public meeting discussing the development of the town hosted by the party.
Calls for better cycle facilities, improved public transport and a community centre were also heard.
