Roscommon GAA says he was one of their top referees.
Tributes are being paid to a Midlands referee who passed away today.
Roscommon GAA says Morgan Keena was one of their top referees.
Chairman Seamus Sweeney says the father of two took ill two weeks ago while preparing to referee a challenge game between Roscommon and Dublin minor teams, despite the intervention of both the Roscommon and Dublin physiotherapists who performed CPR on him until the arrival of HSE paramedics. He never fully recovered and spent the last two weeks in Portiuncula Hospital Ballinasloe.
He refereed the County Intermediate Football Final replay.
Roscommon GAA is extending their sympathies to his wife Laura, daughters Hazel and Chloe, parents Pat and Maura, brothers Mike, Martin and Paddy, and his sisters Patricia, Mary, Sarah and Helen at this sad time.
Mr. Keena of Lacken, Tubberclaire, and formerly of Cornafulla, Athlone, will repose from 2pm to 8pm on Sunday in the Clann na nGael clubhouse, Johnstown, Athlone. Mass of the resurrection will take place on Monday at 11am followed by burial in Drum cemetery.
