The Health Watchdog has released its latest report on the hospital.
Staff at Regional Hospital Tullamore effectively approach patient care, despite additional pressures on the Emergency Department.
That's among the findings of HIQA's latest report on the hospital.
The inspection from the Health Watchdog examined the hospital's effective management to support the delivery of high-quality care, patient flow and capacity, respect, dignity and privacy for people receiving care in the ED, and staffing levels.
It was found to be compliant or substantially compliant in all four of those areas.
HIQA says the hospital's ED was busy on the day of inspection, but functioning well overall, as a result of the use of surge capacity beds to increase inpatient capacity.
However, it states such a use is not sustainable long-term, and further options to support the hospital should be explored.
The report found Tullamore Hospital was well-staffed on the day of inspection, but management should continue to make efforts to fill vacancies, such as the 14% of nursing posts and 47% of HCA positions.
HIQA says while there's work to be done to afford all patients privacy, inspectors were assured dignity, privacy and autonomy were being respected.
Head of Programme for Healthcare at HIQA, John Tuffy, says the flow of patients in the hospital is very efficient:
