A man in his 80s and a woman in her 70s are being treated in Midlands Regional Hospital in Tullamore.
Two elderly people have been seriously injured in a suspected hit-and-run in County Laois.
A man in his 80s and a woman in her 70s were hurt when two cars collided near Ballinakill at around 10.15pm last night.
Both were brought to Midlands Regional Hospital in Tullamore with serious injuries.
The driver of the second car failed to remain at the scene and is being sought by Gardaí.
The road is currently closed pending examination by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators.
Local diversions are in place. Gardaí are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed the collision to come forward.
Road users who were travelling in the vicinity of the L7797 Moat, Ballinakill between 10:00pm and 11:00pm on Friday 31st July 2026 and who may have camera footage (including dash-cam), are asked to make this footage available to Gardaí.
