Two Men In Court After Garda Seize Guns And €700k Drugs In Midlands

Military-grade firearms and hundreds of thousands of euro worth of drugs were seized.

Two men are due before the courts this morning following a major Garda operation targeting organised crime.

Military-grade firearms and hundreds of thousands of euro worth of drugs were seized during searches in Laois and Kildare.

The latest operation forms part of a week-long Garda crackdown that's seen more than €9 million worth of drugs seized, 11 firearms recovered and 11 people arrested under Operation Tara.

During searches in Laois and Kildare, officers found three machine guns, eight pistols, ammunition and silencers, along with heroin, cocaine and cannabis worth more than €700,000.

The two men arrested have since been charged and are due to appear before Athy District Court this morning.

Assistant Commissioner Angela Willis says the operation has significantly disrupted organised crime by taking dangerous weapons and drugs off the streets.
