A UK company has come onboard a major new energy project in the midlands.
The midlands-based Lumcloon Energy is constructing a 275 mega-watt open cycle gas turbine power plant on a 50 acre site near Rochfortbridge.
British energy company VPI Holding Limited, a group entity of global energy trader Vitol, is now taking a 51% share in order to help finance the €500 million project.
400 jobs are to be created when construction starts in autumn 2023, followed by 25 permanent positions.
The project was granted planning permission by Westmeath County Council despite over 70 objections from local residents.
