Upskilling Programmes For 300 For Bord Na Móna Workers To Begin In April

Hundreds of people are out of work due to the wind-down of peat harvesting.

Upskilling programmes for 300 former Bord na Móna workers will begin in April.

Laois Offaly Education and Training Board will be involved in providing a Sustainable Agriculture Traineeship, along with further courses for those wishing to participate in the Peat Climate Action Scheme.

It's estimated that around 160 people taking part in the peat rehabilitation programme will remain in employment for four and a half years.
