Fianna Fail's Aengus O'Rourke is announcing his intention to be nominated for the sixty seat upper house in Dail Eireann.
Westmeath currently has three senators, Cllr O'Rourke's party colleagues Paul Daly and Aidan Davitt while Fine Gael's Gab McFadden is also in the Seanad.
Mr. O'Rourke says the 32,000 people in the Athlone area should have a voice in Dublin:
