The lack of an MRI scanner in Mullingar Regional Hospital is putting lives at risk, according to a Westmeath councillor.
100 thousand euro has been privately raised by the Friends of Mullingar Hospital group to buy an MRI machine - but the HSE has yet to provide the funding it promised for a new building the house the unit.
The Green Party's Hazel Smyth recently raised the issue at the Regional Health Forum, but was told there isn't enough capital funding for the project.
